Possible Scorecard Research and Technorati Widget Issue
Just going by some conversations among people in our network.. but sounds like this is something you all might want to be aware of:
“From Craig:
Hey… anyone know what b.scorecardresearch.com is and why they would suddenly be attached to my blogs, creating endless loops that prevent the site from loading for end-users?
and then later:
And… after a little detective work…
It appears that I had a Technorati widget installed on the affected blogs.
Removed the Technorati widget and the problem went away (at least so far)… ”
Thanks Craig!!
Moral of the story: Research and be careful with widgets and other scripts ads etc.. you install on your blog you may have some unintended consequences…. when in doubt ask yourself why would company A make a free widget for me to put on my site… ie.. what information are they gathering how is it helping them in some other way… and then ask yourself if you want to help them for free.. sometimes its a nice trade out since you get something cool in the widget or script.. but other times the bad may outweigh the good.

Thanks for sharing this post.
I did have an evil widget before. Thank God for my friends who quickly complained at my YM messenger that my blog have gone berserk. After a few minutes of investigation, I found the evil widget and got it removed.

It’s also true that a script that’s ok today could turn poison tomorrow. Once upon a time that technorati widget was a good thing to have and now it’s poison… good reason to keep the number of “outsider” scripts on your blog to a minimum and to keep an eye on the one’s you do have.
