More attempts to Dis Paid Blogging This time by the NY Times?

April 9th, 2008 by Tony

A friend sent me this article with the title blogging bad in the subject… As I read through the article I realized he could be onto something… with all the negative backlash about paid blogging and people trying (ridiculously) to make it some sort of moral issue, Could this article in the NY Times be just another sneaky way for some big media companies (you pick one) to discourage the little guy (paid bloggers) from disrupting their “cash flow Cow” of advertising fees?

Some may laugh but it could be… :)

Here is an excerpt :

“To be sure, there is no official diagnosis of death by blogging, and the premature demise of two people obviously does not qualify as an epidemic.”

Wow! There is sure nothing like talk of death to scare people away… I guess it’s not only immoral for you to make money on your own- with your own blog- but now you risk death accd. to the article…

Maybe they were trying to do some good here but I can’t help but think the whole article is completely absurd and/ or it really is some sort of anti paid blogging agenda PR piece. What do you think?

What? Where and when did someone DIE from blogging? Ridiculous. the advertising pie is big enough for all forms of advertisement, including blogging!

That story is almost comical! Yes, I’m sure there are people who pass on while blogging/writing, but I’m just as sure that there are other underlying elements that are left out of the story.

I had sleep and weight problems well before I ever started blogging, I attributed it to kids, relationships and stress. Maybe it was just my body conditioning itself for my future “job”….LOL!

It feels like an anti paid blogging article, but at least they didn’t slam any specific company. Paid blogging is a “threat” to other forms of advertising services, there’s no doubt about that. But people just need to chill out about it!

P.S. If someone can tell me where I can make $30,000+ a year doing paid blogging, I’d gladly appreciate it! ;-)

  4. Ad Age Says:

Blogging is just a new media outlet for advertisers. Companies and Ad Agencies need to finally accept this a legitimate form of advertising and start tracking its effectiveness. The days of advertising with standard mediums of TV, radio, phone books and magazines is not enough to reach the online and informed consumer.

The way I see it: I could go out and get a part time job somewhere, and get killed in a car accident on the way to or from work. Or I can sit here and expire suddenly, as I’m busy writing yet another blog post.

At least if I die while blogging, I’ll have died a lot happier than if I’d died in a car crash, or having a heart attack from the stress of dealing with stupid customers and bosses at my former job.

We’re all gonna die. No getting around that fact.

Police and firefighters have a MUCH higher risk of dying on the job, but does anyone discourage people from going into those professions?

I do what I do here, no stress at all, and I’m happy. I might live LONGER because of the freedom I have here!

Both those men were in their late 40’s and 50’s, probably had a history of family heart disease, and of course it’s going to be blown way out of proportion.

The article made me laugh, not fear for my life.

I saw that story online earlier this week and thought it was ridiculous!

I agree with you completely about this. although I have never done any pay to blog post I do not thinks that there is anything to it like this article in N.T. tried to push. If that was the case we could say the same for the translators, or any other kind of writers. Which would be absurd.

I just have to say that I think Holly, Ad Age, and Christine, made some excellent comments and brought up several great points. They said everything I was thinking, and they said it very well!
