Townforum Membership Restrictions
September 10th, 2007 by Tony
New bloggers in our network will be restricted from the forum until 30 days or 100 assignments completed and approved - whichever comes first….
Due to the amount of people who seem to want to just poke around our forums we are restricting access to it until we can be at least somewhat sure you are really going to be a blogger for us
Sorry for the inconvenience.

I totally agree with the reasoning.

Makes sense to me, too. Thank you for keeping those forums a safe and drama-free place to visit!

It’s too bad really because new people need the most help sometimes…but for now its all we can do. If other company’s want to know more about us.. they should just ask me
I’m pretty friendly.

Tony,
One of the issues of people being involved less than expected may be due to navigational problems getting there.
When not signed in, the “Town Forum” text is not a link. When signed in, it’s the same for me.
I recently went through a week long system crash and lost my bookmark to get to it directly.
I’m wondering how many other members who frequent forums elsewhere aren’t able likewise to navigate to it.

Tony…isn’t there a way to have *private forums* for registered members who have X number of posts or assignments or whatever, with this software? But still have a public forum just for the newbies who have questions. That might be a good compromise…you would not be shutting everyone out from asking questions when they are just starting out. But on the other hand you’d not have people just poking around.
Once a member meets the requirements (30 days/100 assignments), then they get access to the rest of the forum.
I’m pretty sure that the forum software can allow for that…just a suggestion!

Great Points guys thanks!

yeah I’m with Christine. I was grateful to see the forums go up for myself, but I would have LOVED to have them when I was a newbie. There ARE ways to designate certain sections of the forum visible to newbies and block the rest until they reach the requirements.
And fwiw, if you are able to work around this issue, getting the newbies some help they may need in there, then this is a fantastic idea.

Newbie here
I’ve been wondering why i couldn’t post my questions on the forum LOL now i know why!
It is too bad because instead i have to torment “the email guys” with my questions instead

Ok, I am one of those who can never find the access to the forum. I’m very sure I’ve passed the 30 days…

I’m bummed to see that I can’t access the forums for 30 days or 100 posts. I was hoping to learn some things from the people who’ve been around for quite some time.
Ho hum.

I agree that the newbies need some help and a place for it. Wish I had had that. A newbie forum sounds great!
But I love the forums for info and just talking. And as Christine said, drama-free. It’s a breath of fresh air there.
Thanks!!

@Alice…you need to register for the forums…if you have been blogging for PU2B for 30 days or more, you should be approved quickly. The link on the PU2B site is not live, here it is:
http://www.payu2blog.com/townforum/index.php
Once you register, wait for an e-mail saying that you’re approved. And please use the same e-mail addy that you used to sign up for PU2B.
Hope this helps!
